About Us
Christian Stronghold Church, a non-traditional church located in northeast Dallas, was founded in 1995 by Pastor Hal Johnson, Sr. Our name is based on Nahum 1:7, which reads: “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knoweth them that trust Him.” Christian Stronghold has grown from a home Bible study group of seven people to over 600 members.

We focus on the five pillars of ministry:
Fellowship, Discipleship, Worship, Ministry, and Evangelism; and by engaging people in these five key areas, we will have a positive impact on our community…transforming it into a community that is supported, empowered, and defended by the church.

Pastor Hal Johnson Sr.
Pastor Hal Johnson, Sr. is the founder of Christian Stronghold Church and has served as the Senior Pastor since its inception. He holds degrees from Widener University (B.A. Business Administration) and Dallas Theological Seminary (Master of Biblical Studies).
A native of Vineland, NJ, he is married to his childhood sweetheart, Sheila, and they are blessed with three children, Nicole, Terrina and Hal Jr.
He served as the African American State Consultant for the Baptist General Convention of Texas where he worked with twelve associations across the state to plant over 75 predominantly African American churches in five years.
Pastor Johnson is a gifted and faithful teacher whose messages combine sound Biblical preaching and practical, candid application. His extensive historical knowledge provides context, insight, and understanding as he encourages his listeners to join him in becoming a student of God’s Word.
Committed to missions and ministry, he founded Stronghold Community Development Corp. and Keep the Faith Ministries, and is dedicated to building strong communities and helping small churches develop leaders.
Meet Our First Lady
A native of Richland, New Jersey, Sheila Johnson is a dedicated woman of God and the First Lady of Christian Stronghold Church where she serves faithfully providing leadership, love and loyal support. She and her husband, Pastor Hal Johnson, Sr., have been married for more than 30 years and are the proud parents of three God-fearing children, Nicole, Terrina and Hal Jr.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Development. God gifted First Lady Sheila with a passion for leading children to Christ and uplifting women, and a beautiful singing voice. She gives tirelessly of her time in ministry and humbly serves as Director of the Master’s Jewels Women’s Ministry and the Kingdom Kids Children’s Ministry. She is a woman concerned about the well-being of people and a gifted encourager by nature, and has encouraged numerous women in their homes, marriages and in ministry.
She is the co-founder of Keep the Faith [KTF] Ministries, a ministry empowering faithful leadership, where she shares her experiences as a pastor’s wife to uplift and encourage other First Ladies in conferences and seminars.
First Lady Sheila continues to aim towards excellence in all she does and attributes her successes to an unwavering commitment to God.
